Library & Remembrance Day

So, as I always go the the 8th floor of the university library (where all the archaeology books live), I was very surprised one day to see my picture up on the wall! On the 8th floor, no less! I knew that I was in the new library info pamphlet, but didn't realise that they had made posters to put up in the library as well. I felt a bit vain, but I thought I'd take pictures and share with you all.
the wee poster as it looks in the library. I guess 'sign' is a better word than 'poster'

Also, I took a picture of this for Remembrance day. I was passing a church (which, like the one on Byres Road is now used as a play house/ restaurant). I wonder if anyone ever notices it these days:
This is on the gate that surrounds the grounds around the church.

Guy Fawkes, and all that

The weekend after Halloween, an English friend of Rachel's came up for a YSA dance in Glasgow, and he spent part of the day with us. Rachel and I had made some cookies, and we enlisted his help to decorate them. Then, in the evening, they went off to the dance and I stayed at home and enjoyed a quiet evening!

The next day Rachel, Victoria & I went into the city centre to see LABYRINTH - in the theatre! Oh, it was amazing to see it on the big screen. So many things showed up which you just don't notice on a TV screen. And of course, seeing a larger-than-life David Bowie was very nice too! That was Saturday the 5th, and in the evening, we all went back to the city centre to watch up the fireworks for Guy Fawkes -or- Bonfire Night, as it's called.

Rachel had a jolly frosting "pen" we used to decorate with.
This is Rachel's cat.

We knew that Halloween was over, but we still wanted to do Halloween cookies!
So here's a jack-o-lantern (decorated by David, Rachel's friend)

This one is my cat! :)

And my jack-o-lantern!

Halloween: Oidhche Shamhna

So, here's my final Halloween post: the actual night of Halloween. It was one of my busy days at uni. I dressed up in a witch costume - of sorts. I wore my FABULOUS Halloween skirt that Morag sent me, and my skeleton hoodie, and I even wore a witch hat! I was afraid I'd be laughed to scorn, but actually, people seemed to enjoy it.

In the evening, I went to Family Home Evening, and we had a SUPER fun night: lots of games (a balloon game, pin-the-tail-on-the-black-cat, doughnut on a string, and other such games. Our lesson was about the spirit world, and we had a really good discussion. It was a wonderful evening.

Mother sent me this mini mask, which was perfect for Mungo, who  wanted to dress up for Halloween

Our table!

Leftover cupcakes from Patsy. They were delicious.

Halloween: Carving pumpkins

On Saturday night, after Patsy's party, Rachel & I met up with some of the Chinese folks to carve pumpkins, as they hadn't ever done that before. We cooked pizza for dinner and had leftover candy from Patsy's party and had a lovely time carving pumpkins. I carved a pumpkin - AND a turnip, as that is the traditional Scottish thing to do.
Scooping out our pumpkins!

Halloween: Patsy's Party

Every year, Patsy (the woman who feeds the YSA every fast sunday) has a Halloween party for her three daughters and all their friends. She invited the YSA to come as adult helpers, not that much help was required. Her Halloween party is a well-oiled machine.

There were quite a lot of kids, ranging probably from about six to fifteen years old. And they were rambunctious, but well behaved. I was impressed from beginning to end.

Decorations on the stage at church.

Ooh, a skeleton!

The games & such played at the party.

One of the games - stick your hand in jello to extract a skull ring!

Patsy's middle daughter, Phillipa (called Pippa)

Patsy's youngest, Miranda.

Pasty's eldest daughter, Lydia, dressed as the Phantom of the Opera.

As Pippa was dressed as a flapper, I decided to make an old-fashioned picture of her.

Rachel, dressed as a giraffe!

Patsy showing off her Halloween socks!

My St Mungo costume.

Some of the guests - from the Glasgow ward.

Pasty's husband, Scott. She talked him into wearing a black turtleneck - to dress up as Steve Jobs.

OF COURSE Patsy made amazing food - and loads of it too!
